In verses 1-2, we see Paul's gracious greeting to the saints at Ephesus and to the
faithful in Christ Jesus. In verse 2, he desires the grace and peace of God to be upon
us and he tells us the source from which they come.
In the rest of the chapter, verses 3-23, we see two divisions:
- Paul's Praise (3-14)
- Paul's Prayer (15-23)
Here in verses 3-14, Paul gives praise to God for His ultimate purpose for our
salvation. Here he takes us into God's great salvation truths. Here we can truly see
the riches of His grace towards us.
Verse 3
I. Paul's Praise "Blessed be the God and Father...."
- "Blessed"- To speak well of; to praise; glorify.
- "Blessed" - To cause prosper.
II. Our Spiritual Blessings
- Their Source (God the Father)
- Their Nature (Spiritual not Material)
- Their Sphere (Heavenly not Earthly)
- Their Channel (Jesus Christ the Mediator
Application
1) God has provisions for our every need.
- Salvation
- Sustenance
- Future destination
2) Our duty is to learn of Him, trust and obey.
