My Twentieth Century

In the mid Twentieth Century in May I was born
     A timid child dependent on parents and home;
From a one-room school with family and friends
     To a world of amazement, beginning to end.

A century when man on horseback began
     Then walked on the moon - O what a great span!
Who knows what for us the next century holds
     As life like a parchment scroll daily unfolds.

Three lovely children to nurture and train
     Treasures of God my family became;
The dearest of husbands so perfect and kind
     No greater blessing on earth could I find.

Grandchildren, too, are a pleasure to me
     My life is filled with their laughter you see;
Life cycles revolve like a billowing sea
     And one day soon they grandparents will be.

Many lives, many dreams like vapour are past
     But one thing remains, and to it we hold fast;
Our Heavenly Father, Creator of man
     Still holds our future secure in His hand.
