My First and Only Love

You were my first, and only, love
     A special gift from our Father above;
A greater love than ours intertwined
     Our heart, our soul, our being, our mind;

My mate, my friend, my protector and guide
     Father of our children, our joy and our pride;
A servant of the Lord, faithful to the end
     A soldier of the cross, with many, many friends;

Though you are gone now, I still feel you near
     Our time spent together my memory holds dear;
And not only mine but all those you knew
     Our children, our family, our church families too;

My life here continues, I know not how long
     Before God calls me to my heavenly home;
'Til then, as you said, He's my friend and my guide
     My Heavenly Father, in Him I abide.
